Basic information In spherical roller thrust bearings the line of action of the load at the contacts between the raceways and the rollers forms an angle with the bearing axis. Unlike the other thrust bearings, spherical roller thrust bearings are able as a consequence to carry radial loads (up to max. 55% of the simultaneously acting axial load). Another important feature of these bearings is their self-aligning property which makes them relatively intensive to misalignments of the shaft relative to the housing resulting from shaft deflection. Spherical roller thrust bearings are of separable design; the shaft washer with roller and cage thrust assembly can be mounted separately from the housing washer. They also have a large number of asymmetrical rollers and close conformity between raceways and rollers. They are therefore suitable for very heavy axial loads and also permit relatively high speed operation.
